Why Gypsum Ceilings Are the Way to Go

Ceilings, depending on where they sit and how comprehensive they are, can be made of a wide array of materials. One of the materials in question is gypsum board. There are a few different properties of decorative gypsum boards that make them such a great option for ceiling construction.

Gypsum Properties

Decorative gypsum board possesses a number of different properties that make it a great option for your ceiling. Compared to other ceiling materials, they can have greater strength and be lighter weight, and they are even fireproof, among other things.

Even better, gypsum can be processed in any number of ways as well. Whether it be planing, sawing, drilling, sticking, or nailing, it is a highly versatile material that can be used easily. Its application and installation are as convenient as it gets, making for a simple process every step of the way.

Light Walls

The best uses for gypsum are in a British gypsum ceiling or for light walls. Gypsum plasterboard is highly durable, which makes it an ideal choice for any office setting. It will hold up for a long time without showing the wear and tear that other materials might.

Even better, it is easily cleaned thanks to the clean vinyl surface. Especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, where hygiene levels need to be higher and properly maintained, having gypsum boards can make that all the easier.

For certain areas—such as showers or food prep stations—having a gypsum ceiling can be ideal for more than one reason.

Moisture Resistance

For more humid areas, gypsum board makes sense because of its resistance to humidity. In fact, British gypsum has a 90% relative humidity resistance, making it ideal to hold up in those warmer areas, especially during the summertime months.

Though it isn’t necessarily meant to take on heavy moisture levels—as in a leak or a flood—it won’t bow and warp like other materials would during the hotter, more humid months.

Enjoy the Many Benefits

There are a ton of advantages to going with gypsum board. Among them is the ease of installing and finishing it, along with the sound control, availability and low cost. The latter two are important given the difficulty some are having simply procuring the materials they need these days.

There are a lot of reasons why going with a gypsum board ceiling makes sense. See those benefits up close and personal on your next installation.
